ISS Certificate Management Service (ISS CMS) to Create the World’s First Production-grade CCMS Based on ETSI C-ITS Standards
INTEGRITY Security Services (ISS) has announced the delivery of the world’s first production-grade Root Certificate Authority (CA) that is based on ETSI Cooperative Intelligent Transport System (C-ITS) standards. This Root CA was created under the WebTrust for CA auditing framework, the same framework used to assure the secure and safe operations of the underlying security of Internet e-commerce activity. This Root CA together with the ISS Enrollment Authority and Authorization Authority is collectively known as the C-ITS Security Credential Management System (CCMS, also SCMS).
This CCMS will provide the security needed to deploy C-ITS technology along roadways and in vehicles within Queensland for the Ipswich Connected Vehicle Pilot, Australia’s largest trial of C-ITS. The pilot will involve 500 vehicles, retrofitted with technology allowing participating vehicles to ‘talk’ to other connected vehicles and infrastructure.
“SCMS, such as the one Queensland is developing in partnership with international experts and the federal government, provides the cornerstone of emerging cooperative and automated vehicle technology. It also provides assurance which is integral to delivering a secure and safe system for the pilot and participants,” says Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Mr. Mark Bailey.
“Confidence in the security of connected vehicles is key to their successful introduction onto our roads. The creation of a world-class SCMS in Australia, led by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, creates vital protection for vehicle communications now and into the future. iMOVE is excited to be working with TMR, the Australian Government Department of Infrastructure Transport Cities and Regional Development and ISS to help pave the way for secure connected transport on our roads,” says Ian Christensen, Managing Director, iMOVE (https://imoveaustralia.com).
