Alan Anderson Manufacturing adds in-house selective conformal coating to protect sensitive PCBAs

Two-year-old value-add CEM maintains manufacturing flexibility.

Alan Anderson Manufacturing Ltd (AAM), the UK’s newest full-capability PCBA and Value-Add CEM, has commissioned new conformal coating equipment at its facility in the UK. The PVA Delta 6 flexible robotic conformal coating/dispensing system is ideal for accurately coating numerous types of conformal coatings. The PVA Delta 6 features a robust overhead three-axis motion enabling it to perform large batch operations. The robotic system has a resolution of 5 microns and will coat to varying customers specifications.

Comments Sales Director, Michael Knight: “Effective and consistent conformal coating capabilities have long challenged the industry. Many of our customers require their assemblies to be supplied coated to provide protection from moisture, fungus, dust, and other possible contaminants. Conformal coating by hand is time-consuming and coverage can be variable. Our automated, selective coating robotic system ensures that only the required areas are coated with a consistent finish, without the need for time-consuming, and therefore costly, masking operations.”

The investment in the new equipment is part of a commitment that AAM has made to employ only the latest state-of-the-art equipment and to keep all key processes under one roof. This drives manufacturing flexibility and enables the company to deliver innovative customer support solutions such as the option to keep buffer stocks of completed assemblies in advance of the customers scheduled requirements. Alan Anderson customers can therefore respond in as little as 48 hours to any unforeseen increase in demand often making the difference between customers winning or losing opportunities.
