Avnet Cares showcases STEM technology at the Chandler Innovation Fair

A group of Avnet employees participated in the recent Chandler Innovation Fair (CIF) with hands-on STEM activities and free STEM Kits. The fair, which is run by the City of Chandler and the Chandler Unified School District, is part of the statewide Arizona SciTech Festival.

This free event, held in February, offers unique opportunities for attendees to explore the discoveries of science engineered in their own backyard. It was sponsored by Chandler technology firms including: Avnet, Cirrus Logic, Intel, Microchip Technology, Northrup Grumman, NXP, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Pride Group, SRP and WM Arizona.

Avnet’s hands-on activities included:

  • Computer recognition using a Micro:bit – kids were challenged to see if they could get the computer to recognize their dance moves.
  • Balloon launcher – using simple household items kids were able to build a special launcher to test potential and kinetic energy.

Avnet also had a Raspberry Pi demo along with information about Coolest Projects. Avnet is a sponsor of this global, virtual contest that celebrates young digital creators and the amazing things they make with technology.

Avnet supports youth programs that lead to career paths in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with a preference for programs that serve traditionally under-resourced communities.
